Canal Winchester Community Profile
Canal Winchester is a vibrant, growing community with a rich history and a small-town feel. Canal Winchester’s location, only 15 miles from downtown, makes it convenient to Columbus – especially the distribution facilities surrounding Rickenbacker International Airport – Lancaster, and the rapidly growing communities of northwestern Fairfield County.
Canal Winchester’s refurbished downtown serves both as a shopping district and as a place where the community’s history is celebrated. Three of the many
historic downtown structures have been placed on the National Register of Historic Places – the 1869 train depot, a schoolhouse dating from the 1850s, and a historic grain elevator. Also in Canal Winchester is an 1887 covered bridge – the last of its kind in Franklin County. In addition to downtown, shopping is available in several major commercial areas nearby; two regional malls are also convenient.
Canal Winchester’s parks and recreational facilities offer something for everyone. The village operates a municipal pool, baseball and soccer fields, and offers a year-round program of athletic programs for children and
adults. The Community Center houses public meeting space and programs for all ages, including special senior programs. The village also provides free
transportation to residents who are older than 60 or disabled. Canal Winchester is home to two unusual museums: the Mid-Ohio Doll and Toy Museum, displaying thousands of antique and rare dolls and toys, and a Barber Hall of Fame and Museum, showcasing tools, fixtures, and implements
from more than 150 years of barbering.
